December in São Paulo
December is the month when school break starts and preparations for the holiday season are intensifying.
The temperatures usually increase with the arrival of summer, varying between 25 and 31 Celsius degrees, rains and drizzles often occurs this time of year.
The fruits of the season are: watermelon, plum, cherry, apricot, fig, lychee, melon, mango, nectarine, peach, grape and all this variety is part of the decoration of the tables at Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties.
The city slows down from December 20 giving way to another type of rush, the preparations for the parties that make the famous shopping streets such as Rua 25 de Março, the region of Brás and Bom Retiro are crowded.
The Christmas atmosphere invades the city, many streets are decorated, the shopping malls and the Christmas lights take over the façades of buildings and homes.
This year there will be again illuminated caravans scattered throughout the districts, check the route that starts at 7:30pm and will have as final destination at the Christmas Tree of Ibirapuera Park.
On December 2, the opening of the exhibition Artisans and their Nativity Scene in the MAS Room – Tiradentes Subway Station – from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.
On December 3, the Sacred Art Museum of São Paulo begins its traditional Exhibition of Nativity Scene, from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

Also on December 3, the Franciscan Nativity Scene Exhibition begins in the São Francisco Sanctuary at 133, Largo São Francisco, with more than 30 Nativity Scene from many parts of the world.

This year happens the 5th edition of the Nativity Scene Exhibition of São Bento Monastery in the historical center of São Paulo. There are more than 30 sets that can be checked until the end of the year. Visitation is free can be done from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm; on Saturdays from 8 am to noon; on Sundays, from 11:20 am to noon.
On December 9 and 10 the celebration of school closing year of Ibirapuera Auditorium will take place with presentations by the Auditory School Choir and Auditory Orchestras. The repertoire will feature compositions by big names in Brazilian music such as Miss Ivone Lara, Itamar Assumpção and Pixinguinha.
12/09 at 9pm and 12/10 at 7pm.
Free admission with an hour and a half tickets distribution before the presentation, limited to two tickets per person.
Entrance to Pinacoteca of São Paulo will be free for the entire month of December. The purpose of the action is to stimulate the exhibitions visitation.
On December 31, the city wakes up with the famous and traditional São Silvestre road race, which is now 93 years old and was implemented by the journalist Cásper Líbero, a sports enthusiast, which consists of a 15km ride starting on Avenida Paulista and closing at Casper Líbero Foundation building at the number 900 of that Avenue, and at night occurs our famous New Year’s Eve celebration at Paulista Avenue with live shows and bands and the famous 10 minutes firework display.
